The Challenge

Souvenir is a documentary series exploring the science, history, psychology and industry of how scent associations are created. When they reached out to us, the only media that existed was a series of 5 minute talking head informative videos of different professionals within the fragrance industry. The team behind Souvenir are passionate about smell and want to elevate it to the forefront of everyday conversation. Their goal was to excite non-fragrance enthusiasts by giving a glimpse into the olfactory world. They asked us for an introductory sizzle to entice investors and potential partnerships. 

Through market research, we realized we needed to guide people on the same journey of discovery the Souvenir team went through when first falling in love with scent. 

Our Approach

How did we visualize the imperceptible- smell? There is no language for smell, we borrow words from taste and touch. Scents are invisible, we can only describe them by likening them to another sense- it’s fresh, green, like chocolate, etc. So, we did just that. We created a multi-sensory teaser where each shot evoked another sense. We added a call to action voice over that explained the complexities of smell and its intricate link to the human psyche to bolster audience engagement.
